To provide a reticulated drinking water scheme, compliance with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines 2004 must be demonstrated before the service is provided to members of public. To demonstrate compliance with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, the Department of Health WA requires drinking water service providers to:
- establish a Drinking Water Quality Management Plan; andÂ
- establish system compliance and reporting processes with Department of Health.

Drinking water scheme providers which are required to obtain a licence from the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) might be required to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Health. To determine whether you require an ERA licence, contact ERA at:
