It is important to be aware of the effects of heat on the body and how to help yourself stay healthy and feeling well during these periods of extreme heat. The young, elderly, disabled, those who work in outdoor settings and people with existing medical conditions are at the greatest risk of harm from high temperatures.

In addition to the health hazards associated with extreme heat, and the potential physical injuries such as burns, fires result in large volumes of smoke. This bushfire smoke poses an additional health risk. The major killers from bushfires are the radiant heat, dehydration and asphyxiation.
