How is molluscum contagiosum spread? By close skin-to-skin contact. Molluscum contagiosum can be spread through both sexual and non-sexual contact.
What are the symptoms of molluscum contagiosum? Pearly lumps, usually on the pubic area, thighs and lower belly.
The spots can appear in groups and be itchy. Scratching can spread the virus.
How do you get tested for molluscum contagiosum? Usually just by looking (a physical examination).
What is the treatment for molluscum contagiosum? The lumps can disappear by themselves, but they can be removed or frozen by applying liquid nitrogen.
How can you minimise the risk of contracting molluscum contagiosum? Always use a condom.
Avoid sexual activity with casual partners and/or decrease your number of sexual partners.
Have a check-up for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) if you have had:
- unsafe sex
- a new partner
- symptoms.
