Exclusion

Cases: exclude until diarrhoea has ceased from food handling, school, pre-school and child care centres.
Contacts: do not exclude

Case definition

Only confirmed cases should be notified

A confirmed case requires laboratory definitive evidence +/- clinical evidence
AND
epidemiological evidence

Laboratory definitive evidence

Demonstration of the ova of Schistosoma species in urine, faeces or tissue specimen;
OR

Positive Schistosomal antibodies in a patient with clinical evidence of schistosomiasis; and a clinical history of likely exposure.
