Exposure draft of the Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Bill 2011
The Poisons Act 1964 (External link) and Poisons Regulations 1965 (External link) are the current legislative instruments that regulate sale and supply of medicines and poisons in Western Australia. This legislation has been amended over time to maintain currency. However, the legislation now requires significant update to meet community needs and expectations.
The Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Bill 2011 (PDF 344KB) is the proposed replacement legislation. Drafting of this new law is now far enough progressed to allow release of an exposure draft for stakeholder and public comment. The draft has been written based on the results of previous broad industry and consumer consultation rounds. It is constructed on recommendations and principles arising from this past consultation work. Public health and safety is still the principal function of the Bill.
