Geraldton Dust Investigations

Geraldton was in the news earlier this year when it was feared that high levels of metal dusts from the Geraldton Port could be contaminating the nearby residential areas.

To investigate if the people of Geraldton were being exposed to high levels of metal dusts from the Port the Department of Health coordinated an environmental sampling program in Geraldton in January this year.

Soil, dust and rainwater samples were taken from the community for metal analysis that included lead, copper and zinc.

The result of the investigation was that the Geraldton community had not been exposed to high levels of metal dusts.
