The WA Government undertook the development of the Shared Land Information Platform (SLIP) in January 2005. SLIP provides a single, online point-of-entry to the mapping, imagery and location based information held by various government departments.
SLIP EM can detail the location and spread of events, transport networks, population and infrastructure details, weather and environmental conditions, health services, drainage details, geology, aerial photographs and other spatial data. This information can be of vital importance when coordinating an incident response.
The Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia (External link) (FESA) is the lead agency responsible for the development of the Emergency Management business focus area, part of the Shared Land Information Platforms (SLIP) e-government initiative. FESA and other West Australian Emergency Service organisations, including the Department of Health, are developing a series of pilot services that combine the various online mapping services with the needs of the various State WESTPLANS. The initial WESTMAP pilot services will be supporting the State’s Bushfire, HAZMAT and Search & Rescue requirements.
The Health emergency (pandemic) scenario has been identified and selected as one of the next pilot projects.
