Requirement for licensing
Licensing of private hospitals is based on government legislation, the Hospitals and Health Services Act 1927 . If you operate a facility that meets what is defined as a private hospital in the Act, you need to apply for a licence.

What does it cost?
Fees are payable at the time of an application for a new licence and prior to renewal of a licence.
Granting of licence fee and Approval of Premise fee are the following:
| Fewer than 25 persons to be accommmodated |
$2,600 |
| 25 - 100 persons to be accommodated |
$3,100 |
| 101 - 200 persons to be accommodated |
$4,100 |
| More than 201 persons to be accommodated |
$6,100 |
Fees for a licence renewal are calculated by the number of persons to be accommodated and are the following:

$200 |
| 25 - 100 |
$500 |
| 101 - 200 |
$1,000 |
| More than 201 |
$1,500 |
"The maximum number of patients that may be treated at any one time" (as stated on the licence) is the "number of persons to be accommodated".
