Air quality

blue balloonThe air we breathe can contain emissions from motor vehicles, industry, heating and commercial sources, as well as tobacco smoke and household fuels.

Air pollution can be harmful to human health, particularly in those people who are already vulnerable because of their age or existing health problems.

To protect Western Australian's from the potential health affects of air pollution, WA Health has developed a range of information on common air quality issues.

Air toxics

'Air toxics' are a diverse range of air pollutants that are usually present in ambient air in relatively low concentrations but have characteristics such as toxicity or persistence that make them a hazard to human, plant or animal health. These pollutants include volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, heavy metals and others.

Refer to the air toxics webpage for further information.
