Aged care

Promoting and adopting good Infection control standards in Aged Care settings is an important risk management consideration for all aged care organisations. Given the vulnerability of elderly people in Residential Care Facilities (RCF) (eg have chronic medical conditions which predisposes elderly people to infection), preventing the transmission of infection within these environments should be a high priority for all organisations to minimise potential health risks to the elderly.

The Communicable Disease Control Directorate (CDCD) has developed a number of Operational Directives and guidelines for RCF that outline recommended measures to prevent and contain, the spread of infection within a RCF.
