Pandemic influenza - Community health and safety

Introduction

An influenza pandemic is a global outbreak which occurs when a new strain of influenza virus, against which people have little or no immunity, spreads rapidly from person to person around the world. There are simple protective measures which everyone can practice to reduce the spread of infection. These include covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, avoiding touching your face with your hands and washing your hands regularly.
