The role of the Public Health Intelligence Directorate
Our Vision is to contribute to a healthier Western Australian community.
Our Mission is to promote and deliver health intelligence to decision makers that identify areas for action to improve health outcomes.
We do this by:
-
Adding meaning to data through knowledge and expertise
-
Developing and using leading-edge technology and innovative methodologies
-
Communicating and disseminating high quality and relevant health information
-
Being a ‘one-stop shop’ for a wide range of health related information
Our Structure
The Public Health Intelligence Directorate consists of two branches:
Data linkage is the activity of finding connections between different pieces of information that are thought to belong to the same person, family, place or event. The Data Linkage Branch (DLB), is responsible for creating, managing and promoting a system of links between DOHWA and other relevant health-related data collections. This system is referred to as the WA Data Linkage System. The DLB also undertakes geocoding of address information. The DLB Client Services group facilitates access to linked data for health planning, purchasing, evaluation and research.
The primary role of the Epidemiology Branch is the collection and analysis of health information for surveillance and monitoring of the Western Australian population. This information enables informed priority setting, appropriate targeting of programs and the evaluation of their effectiveness.
The branch offers a variety of high level epidemiological expertise which allows it to offer a range of services as well as comprehensive reports on health.
